The Ridges

Athens Institution for the Insane opened in 1874, and was in use up until the 90's. It was featured in an episode of "The Scariest Places on Earth", listed as the 13th most haunted place on Earth.

In one of the courtyards is some sort of Kirkbride memorial, which includes a sweet list of abandoned hospitals.

The main complex is partially in use, including a museum in the administration building. Almost all the outbuildings have been renovated and put to use.

The building branches off into two sections. On the left is the male ward, and on the left is the female ward. The male ward is probably 80% renovated. The female ward is totally abandoned.

In the picture below there is a one-way mirror, so that the patients could be observed without them knowing.
