Squires Castle
We had a real tough time finding this place. It's located in the middle of the metroparks, but unless you have someone local give you GOOD DIRECTIONS, you'll probably get lost. I got directions from other websites (that I will not mention) which were totally off, then I got directions from 2 different gas stations, and both were wrong. So I was in a pretty bad mood by the time we located it. Here's some pictures though.
There's an urban legend that goes along with Squires Castle. It goes something like this... A man and his wife lived here back in the day. The wife always felt unsafe at night, because of the castle's location in the woods. So every night she used to wander the halls and grounds with a lantern to assure herself that everything was alright. One night when she was doing her rounds, she stumbled down the stairs into the basement and died. Then when he sold the house to the city, they filled the basement with cement and removed the upper floors. Some say that at night you can see her lantern inside the castle moving around.
That story is hardly true. It is confirmed that the wife of the story, Rebecca Squire, actually died 4 years after the property was sold. And the real story behind the lantern is that teenagers used to have bonfires inside the castle late at night, and that's what could be seen from the road. Whether it's haunted or not, it's still a pretty neat place.
